The School of Pet Science and Technology specializes in the education of professional, qualified personnel for the field of pet care. It enrolls students from all over the country and the department boasts a good teaching faculty, many experiments and a variety of training approaches, therefore the students graduated from this department enjoy bright job prospects. AT present, there are five majors, including Pet Care and Beauty, Pet Medicine, Pet Training and Health Care and Experimental Animal Cultivation, with over 1,600 students in total.
The School of Pet science started to enroll students from all over the country in 2001, being the first among national departments of higher education to create a major in Prevention and Cure of Animal Epidemic Disease, Food and Toys for Pets, ect. In 2006, due to the development of the national pet industry, the college set up the Department of Pet Science, further enhancing the professional development of pets, creating the first majors in pets, in national departments of higher education. In 2008, the pet breeding and epidemic prevention specialty were identified as Jiangsu Province demonstration higher occupation colleges of Jiangsu province key construction professionals, professional characteristics. In 2010, the professional was identified as the national demonstration (backbone) higher occupation education of key disciplines.
Currently, there are 39 full-time teachers, among which there is 1 person of Senior title, 6 people of vice senior title, 23 people of intermediate title, and 9 people of primary title; three with doctor’s degree and twenty-seven bachelor’s degree, the ratio of teachers account for 90%. And one of them is a famous expert on Agricultural Vocational Education in China; three are the 1 heads of major projects, namely “333 project” and “311 project”.
Experiment and training
There are four training bases, namely Jiangsu Pet (Tibetan mastiff) Breeding Center, Aimu Pet Hospital, Aimu Beauty Center and the Pet Discipline Center, and there are three laboratories, including the Basic Medical Experimental Center for Disease Control and Prevention Skills Training Center, Pet and Pet Maintenance Skill Training Center. Also, there are over 70 off-school practice bases.
1. Pet breeding and epidemic prevention
Training aim: This major prepares the students with advanced technical talents in Pet care, pet training, pet breeding of disease prevention and control.
Job opportunities: Graduates can find jobs from following company types, such as Pet breeders, pet hospitals, pet food companies, service companies, pet markets, public security, customs, zoos or self-employment. This major enjoys wide job opportunities. The graduates from the major are needed abundantly by the market. The employment rate is 100% every year.

2. Pets Medicine
Training aim: The major prepares the students with advanced technical talents in Pet diseases clinic, pet care and pet beauty.
Job opportunities: Graduates can find jobs in pet hospitals, Centers for Animal Disease Control and Prevention, Pet Beauty Salons, Zoos, etc. in large and medium-sized cities in developed area, or become self-employed. The employment rate is 100% every year.

3. Pet Care and Beauty
Training aim: The major prepares the students with advanced technical talents in the pet beauty, pet breeding, pet care, pet medical work, competition level beauty technology, routine nursing care and breeding.
Job opportunities: Graduates can find jobs in pet grooming, pet hospitals, dog needed for pet care and beauty services jobs. Our country is lacking talents in this field. The employment rate is 100% every year.
Main courses: Anatomy and physiology, basic medical, reproductive and obstetric diseases, raising pets, dogs and cats, variety introduction to behavior, common disease, epidemic disease, pet care, pet training, pet beauty and aesthetic foundation of modeling, pet hospitals, pet photography technology practice.
4. Pet Training and Health Care
Training aim: The major prepares the students with advanced technical talents, in Pet training, pet care and pet diseases prevention and control.
Job opportunities: Graduates can find jobs in Pet training center (school), dogs, pet hospitals, and pet game base units as pet guiding hand, pet, pet health care teacher trainer. The employment rate is 100% every year.

5. Experimental Animal Cultivation
Training aim: The major prepares the students with advanced technical talents in Animal science, experimental animal management, biotechnology research.
Job opportunities: Graduates can find jobs in Modern medicine, the chemical industry, agriculture, light industry, environmental protection, inspection and other industries, in universities, research institutes, pharmaceutical companies, and large and medium-sized hospitals. The employment rate is 100% every year.
Main courses: Pet anatomy and histology embryology, pathology, pharmacology and toxicology, animal experiment of animal nutrition and feed, laboratory animal environmental science, laboratory animals, laboratory animals and animal model, animal experiment and operation technology, biological engineering, animal epidemic prevention and disease control, experimental animal management systems and regulations.
Over 3,000 students have graduated since 2004, and all of them are now working in Beijing, Shanghai, Sichuan, Guangdong, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu, ect. According to the response of the Associations of small animal science from all these provinces, those graduates have both profound theoretical knowledge and good manipulative skills, which are unanimously praised.
